We recently adopted 5 month old Daisy 3 weeks ago from the pound.
Her papers said she was a Whippet Hound mix. I'll be honest,I never heard of such a breed. We have a toddler, so when we went to meet her I wanted to see how they would react around each other.
That was key. We noticed how calm, yet very happy she was around us. She listened very well and waited patiently for treats.
We wanted to make sure "Mitzi" (her pound name) was comfortable with us. After meeting with her for 10 minutes we decided to adopt her. She needed lots of love and food!
I knew whippets were generally thin dogs (I did research on her breed before meeting with her, but golly you could see every rib :( The pound told us she was a stray and they just took her in 2 days ago. She was very sweet and happy on the ride to her forever home.
We made a pit stop:
The pet store! It was chilly out so we bought her a jacket! :) Some food and toys. The first few days went by pretty well. We took her with us where ever possible. Our toddler loves her new sister!
Since her adoption, Daisy has gained healthy weight (no more ribs!). We took her to the dog park but at first she was scared. We think the gates and all dogs barking reminded her of the pound. The second time we took her, she seemed more relaxed.
She sniffed out the whole park until she found a few friends. She ran and played non-stop. Its safe to say that she loves the dog park now :)
We still have some things to teach her slowly but surely. Things can get challenging making sure my daughter and Daisy don't get into anything they shouldn't.
They're like bonnie and clyde LOL Daisy is forever giving lots of kisses and hugs. We couldn't be happier with our decision in adopting her.
