Dougie the Dog - Shitzu

by Ellie Wright
(Gold Coast)

Dougie, from the moment my parents, my brother and I saw you in the Doggy Pet Shop (we had traveled an hour to find you) we fell in instant love.

I have never known such a loyal, caring and fathering dog-like figure to your three little puppy brothers Harry, Max and Lewis.

You were always there to protect them, ensure their safety and break up their fights if they were fighting over schmakos or treats.

You were always there to greet us at the door with a "present" as we arrived home, whether it be a sock, a dog toy or anything else you could find quickly to put in your mouth. It made us laugh every time!

Dougie, one of the funniest memories I have of you is you chasing dad around the outside house perimeter in the early morning straight out of bed, playing games. The only thing was we lived on a canal, and all the neighbours could see was dad running around the house squealing and laughing in his little undies and not seeing you chasing him!

Unfortunately we have to make one of the hardest decisions of our life to release you to heaven tomorrow. Your body has let you down at 14 years of age and it is breaking our hearts every time we see you fall over and your lack of ability to even walk properly or eat your dinner standing/sitting up.

Tomorrow will be one of the hardest days of our lives and I want you to know you will NEVER be forgotten. Your memory will last with us in conversation and in our hearts until we are re-united with you in heaven.

We love you eternally and we thank you so much for being in our lives and bringing us so much joy.

RIP Dougie Dog and see you up above xxx
