Doggy DNA - Scam!

We have a rescue dog that is so clearly a border collie. He looks like the dog "Babe." Our friends have a pure bred border collie and they look like twins.

We got our dog when he was 13 weeks old. When he was 5, we thought it would be fun to find out if he had any other mixes in him so we did a Doggy DNA kit.

Funny thing is that Border Collie did not show up on the results. They listed 3 breeds he doesn't even resemble. We have a second puppy, another border collie rescue that we think may be part whippet.

However, I'm not wasting another $70 on Doggy DNA to tell me he's a beagle. LOL.

Dog DNA Test
by: Elda

Although I have some doubts about the validity of the commercial DNA tests for dogs, I think the saying"don't judge a book by its cover" is true also when it comes to dogs and genetic tests.

The genotype (the information in the genes) doesn?t necessarily becomes evident in the phenotype (what a dog looks like).

A pet of uncertain origin can surprise us with an unexpected genetic making!
