Whippet Dog Story: Kashmir, my Whippet Protector

by Jenny
(San Francisco, CA)

My Whippet, Kashmir, is 1.5 years old and already she is my protector. She doesn't bark, she just sits herself between me and other people until SHE decides if they are good.

When my cancer came back, Kashmir has been like glue. I can't even go to the bathroom without her nudging the door open to check me out ... once I pass her inspection, the leaves the bathroom door, but plops herself on the floor next to the door.

She takes her naps on my lap, too ... she will "talk" to me to sit down in the recliner, hop up on me and then claw me to "cover" her with the special blanket. As soon as I grab the blanket, she curls up on my lap with her head against my heart.

She is all white - no other color on her ... like an angel. I miss her since I'm stuck in the hospital for 4-6 weeks undergoing stem cell transplant. From what my husband says, she misses me a lot too ... sleeps on my chair and on my side of the bed.

Why are whippets my favorite? Their personality and loyalty. Uncomparable!

It's true, whippets are so quiet and gentle that they can become very good companions in stressful times.
