Whippet Rescue Florida

by Shawn Hart
(Fort Pierce, FL USA)

We accept all whippets, regardless of age, health or temperament. We also provide resources for whippets and greyhound adoptions.

The Founders: Jonathan Hart has been working with whippets for over 13 years and have fostered and found homes for more than 70 whippets. He takes special care in screening each home to ensure each whippet is placed into the appropriate home.

Jonathan volunteers at the local humane society and is an active member of several online whippet and greyhound communities. He is dedicated to assisting breeders, competition, and pet homes in re-homing whippets, regardless of the situation.

Shawn Hart has been working with dogs for more than 20 years and began working with whippets in 2004. Shawn owns (or is owned by) Bella, the 2007 Willow Award Winner through the American Whippet Club for therapy dogs. Bella is also famous and is frequently seen on Animal Planet's "America's Cutest Dog Contest." Her claim to fame originated from her YouTube videos as a talking dog.

Shawn also competes with one of her adopted whippets in a competitive dog sport, called Flyball, with his team, Express Delivery. George the whippet is ranked within the top 50 whippets of North America and can also be seen on YouTube and in the Flyball racing lanes in Florida.

In addition to working with whippets, Shawn received the 2010 James B. Creal award during her 15-year employment of AAA. She now volunteers at the local animal shelter in her spare time.

Jonathan and Shawn were married in April, 2010. Together they have four whippets, three greyhounds and a lab mix.

The Volunteers: Our volunteers have each been carefully selected based upon their knowledge and experience with the breed. Our volunteers offer transportation, home visits, accept whippets for re-homing and foster. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Jonathan Hart for information.
