Whippet Mix: Magnolia (aka Maggie)

by Jenn
(New York)

We adopted Maggie (4 months old) from a shelter in Tennessee. She had a rough beginning - being abused and neglected to the point of near starvation.

When we got her, she was severely underweight, terribly fearful and nearly bald due to what our vet called "the worst case of demodex" she'd ever seen. It was difficult to tell what her breed mix was, but we really didn't care...we just loved that she was ours.

The shelter guessed that she was a boxer/hound mix. We were in touch to see if we could see photos of her siblings to get a better sense, but sadly learned that Maggie was the only one of her litter that survived. We've been doing lots of research, and based on her personality, it seems she has lots of whippet traits.

Maggie is now almost a year and 1/2, and is doing awesome! She can't bear to be more than 3 inches away from us at all times, snuggles into our bodies and on top of our laps and insists on sleeping dead center between my husband and I in our bed.

She burrows into blankets and prefers to be inside than anywhere else! We have to all but carry her outside, but once she hits the beach or the dog park, she comes alive and sprints like the wind!

Maggie spends half her time out there chasing after balls and doing laps at full speed...and the other half falling at our feet, rolling on her back and looking for affirmation. She is so full of joy and has the most happy and affectionate personality!

She never barks and is so smart....but does exactly what she wants to do! She is amazing! Everyone who meets her comments on what a gentle spirit she is!

We're just wondering if anyone thinks she could be a whippet mix? Any insight into what else she might be?

Thanks so much!!

Whippet Personality

She seems more strongly build than a whippet but she definitely has a whippet personality!
