Whippet Dog of the Day: Duke

Duke in the backyard on rabbit watch. I'll get that pesky rabbit!

Our beautiful whippet dog Duke is a wonderful addition to our household.

We have recently noticed a wild rabbit in our property and our whippet Duke can sense when it is around. A couple of times he has seen it during the day and he was to take off after it but luckly he was on the lead at the time.

The other night he was dozing by the fire and we were watching TV, when he suddenly shot up and started acting excited by smelling all over the floor and going to the backdoor and whining.

We were wondering what on earth was going on as he has never acted like this.

We let him out the back door in the cold night and he put his nose down and started smelling around the house, then went to the door that leads under the house and wanted to get under it although he had never shown any interest in it before.

Duke then went to the back of the garage where the rabbit could escape through the fence.

The rabbit must had ran under the house and we could only conclude that he sensed that it had been there.

We don't know how our whippet knew it, by smell or whether he heard it through the floor, even though the noise of the TV was on.

So don't underestimate a whippet's hunting ability!

Ch. Ro, MLD, Jn Ch RO, MLD Absolute Style de Casa Braty!

I never thought Whippets can have such a wonderful character, until I had my PicPic(his home name).
We can travel everywhere around the world, he is happy to be with his family.
He always does his best to have all the family around him.
As I am a breeder of Black Terriers, he is the only small one in the house.
They play very nicely together, he runs my dogs all the time.
As people say: I have a ball to run my dogs... I say, I have my PicPic. :)
He loves to sleep together with my blakies, to make himself a bed in the fur. He is always happy!

He loves the trips and the baths at the seaside.
This picture is from Croatia, last year.

I am very glad and proud to be a Whippet owner!

Whippet Dog of the Day: Zoey

by Dave Hudkins
(Vancouver, WA)

Love at first sight

Love at first sight

Zoey is now 12 weeks old whippet puppy.

She's taken very easily to crate training (as long as there's a soft bed inside).

Would like to get the right collar for her. Currently she has a harness, which she hates and ads to her anxiety's of going for walks.

Any suggestions for collars?

Abby and Chloe

by Roger
(Bolingbrook,Il)

Abby and Chloe are feeling more and more at home recently, they seem to be training me very well,lol...
The other day they were in the kitchen and kept trying to fix the rug to lay on by biting it and I told them "no", but they kept doing it, so I went in there and fixed it and they laid back down on it.
Later I heard a commotion again , so I looked at them and they saw me and when I walked around to fix it again, they were both laying there like little angels, what dickens huh ??

Dog of the Day: Cash Junior, Lost Without Him

by Sandy
(Westminster Colorado)

My Life

My Life

"Cash Junior" was born in a litter of 11 pups, Junior being the runt of the litter.

Mom Delihla was very ill and unable to feed 11 pups and this gave us the opportunity to get Junior at the age of 2 weeks.

It was true love at first sight: up all night bottle feeding, sometimes tube feeding, cuddling, and just being there.

I worked at a veterinary clinic and Junior went everywhere with me. He went to work, he went to the store, and he is no further than 6 inches behind me wherever I go.

We have a rather large family 2 cats, 3 chihuahuas, 4 children and Junior. Junior is either going 35 miles per hour or sleeping on the couch or bed.

We have been through everything together from him trying to jump a 6 foot brick wall to him never leaving my side after 2 major surgeries.

When I get home from the grocery store he checks every bag till he finds the new toy purchased for him.

He does everything from helping make the bed and putting pillow cases on, to playing on the trampoline with the kids.

Sometimes I think he is a little too spoiled but that is what has made him the crazy lap runner, go everywhere, sit on my shoulder, hug giver, sweetheart he is.

From being bossy telling you what he wants to obeying my every command, Junior means everything to me and my family.

Even the cats enjoy the love Junior gives when he snuggles up to them and cleanes their ears or brings them his toys to share and play.

We relax on the back porch swing and share an apple after playing running laps around the trampoline and of course jumping with the kids.

Whippet Pictures: James and Melody Hawkins

What? Can't a boy love his duck??

What? Can't a boy love his duck??

My husband and I bought our special boy, Colt, who is now two and the absolute love of our lives, before we got married.
We are so enamored with him and the breed in general that we will definitely have whippets for the rest of our lives.
Colt is the sweetest, most loving dog in the world and everyone who meets him falls in love.
I am in medical school and I don't know what I would do if I didn't have Colt to snuggle up with while I study:)
I am a horse lover also and so I named him Colt because he looks elegant and graceful like a little horse.
This is a picture of Colt giving one of his favorite ducks a hug.

Why Phoenix, what a big nose you have!

by Winter

Does my nose look big to you?

Does my nose look big to you?

Phoenix is a two year old whippet who loves running alongside her rollerblading humans!

This weekend, she tried to outrace some cyclists while pulling her buddy on rollerblades! She kept glancing at her competitors and she gained speed steadily as they had a good laugh!

Too bad they had road bikes and weren't leashed!

Whippet Dog of the Day: Pooped Out Puppy

by Aimee

Gypsy

Gypsy

Gypsy was 4 months old in this picture. We went to a festival where she was able to walk around and meet many strangers. It was very good for her, and she, of course, was very well behaved!

As soon as we got into the car, she was SO tired she crashed out faster than my 4 year old son!
