Lyric, the "Chihuahua Whippet Mix" Dog

I found a small group of puppies, described as petite chihuahua whippet mix 8 weeks old, in a Mississipi pound on a SOS high kill shelter listing animals forum online.

Unable to bare how adorable they were I had them moved to a rescue in Tennessee: all it took was some calls and transport/rescue fees so it seemed an easy good deed.

Upon hearing that 2 of the 3 pups had found home, I couldn't bare the idea of a 3rd lonely one being shipped off to live alone somewhere, so of course I paid the adoption/vetting fee and transport fees to get her from Tennessee all the way to Newhampshire where she was picked up and taken to her new home in Maine!

It was very apparent that the pup I had seen in the photo had multiplied in size as she came off the transport truck.

I handed her back and said "are you sure this is my chihuahua mix?". After careful inspection, the paperwork/tags appeared to be a match.

After having spent 10 minutes with her waiting for the paperwork to get sorted out I had decided even if it wasn't my Chi mix she was definitely my dog!

In months my 10 lb 'Chi mix pup' had morphed into a 36 lb (vet guesses Whippet x Shepherd)and the greatest dog and friend I've ever had.

She runs like the wind, has once even outed a rabbit in the woods (but like a faithful little girl came trotting back rabbit unharmed), and still thinks she's my tiny little Chihuahua lap dog.

I had never spent much time thinking about sighthounds as pets until I adopted Lyric, but now I see just how wonderful they are.

P.S. check out that tongue, I swear it's as long as her lean, muscular body!

Lyric Whippet Mix

My whippet mix Lyric loves laying in the sun. At home she's a regular couch potato who only gets up to beg for a treat. Outside though she's a running machine! People ooh and ahh at her speed and agility at the dog park or on hikes in the woods.
