Low Maintenance Dogs: the Whippet

Whippets are low maintenance dogs. The short coat, remarkable health and the moderate exercise needs of this breed earned it the name of “lazy man's dog”.

The short and odorless coat requires only minimal attention.

Your loving care, a regular regimen of exercise, quality food, occasional bathing and few basic dog grooming supplies is all you need to keep your whippet companion in top condition.

A weekly grooming session with a hound glove or rubber brush will get rid of the dead hair.

For a glossy coat you can then finish off with a chamois leather.

While grooming your whippet check the teeth. If you notice tartar build up, ask your vet to scale it.

To keep the feet in good condition, always check the nails and if necessary give them a trim. Click here to read about the tricky art of nail trimming.

Whippets don’t need to be bathed too often. Whippets will need a shampoo only if they are smelly after indulging in rubbing in an odorous mess or maybe monthly during the warm season.
