Dog Agility Supplies You Need to Start with Your Whippet

You don’t need expensive dog agility supplies or to enroll in a club to start your whippet in this sport. Before enrolling in a class have a try with some homemade dog agility equipment.

You are ready to go beyond basic training.

You are looking for a fun activity to practice with your whippet.

You don’t have a dog agility class in your area.

You’re not sure if you and your dog would like this sport.

Your whippet gets easily distracted and you would like a quiet environment to start this activity.

You are not willing to invest in professional agility training.

You are not sure your whippet would enjoy this activity.

This are all perfectly good reasons to start your own backyard agility class.

dog agility supplies With a little ingenuity you can assemble some homemade dog agility equipment to have fun with your dog and have a taste of the sport.

Use carton board boxes open on both sides as tunnel, stakes planted in the ground for poles, folded chairs for obstacles.

After all agility was fashioned after horse show jumping and was introduced only in 1978 as a demonstration at Crufts dog show.

Trying imaginative dog agility supplies and obstacles will keep you dog interested and the game entertaining.

At the beginning use a leash to hold contact with your whippet,

keep the obstacle low and easy,

always maintain an upbeat attitude,

reward even the smallest success with food or play,

end any session on a happy note, before your dog gets tired.

If you think only border collies excel in agility, have a look at this video, it’s proof that not only whippets can be successfully trained but they can also excel in activities beyond racing and coursing.

Of course, things are not always this smooth, whippets can be rather independent, and try your patience.

Your hound might find some interesting extracurricular activity right in the middle of an obstacle course or decide that after all agility is not that interesting.

Your whippet will be your teacher, you’ll learn patience, humility and how to outsmart a very fast dog, but once you’ll start to savor the first success you and your whippet will be hooked.

At this point if you wish to advance further in the training and compete in dog agility contests, participating in club activities and classes will be an invaluable help.
